Slaughtered Lamb Pub

Slaughtered Lamb Pub
182 W 4th St
New York, NY 10014

We were thirsty, so we stopped by this pub for a few drinks.

The decor is creepy, which makes it intriguing.  It

The website says that it is owned by a family of werewolves.  There were mannequins (I think) of girls being bitten by werewolves.

I didn't eat the food, so I can't say anything about it.

I did have some drinks and they were good.  The service was good, as well.

I like the vibe and quirkiness of this place.  It was fun.

Tennessee Brewery Untapped

495 Tennessee Street
Memphis, Tennessee 38103

Memphis has been having pop up shops in various areas to help redevelop certain areas.  Overton Square had a pop us Christmas shop a couple of years ago, and now Overton Square is thriving.  I believe Broad Avenue started this way, too.

Downtown, there is a brewery that was built in 1890.  It closed in 1954, and has ben vacant ever since.  It's a beautiful building overlooking the Mississippi River.

About 5 weeks ago, the brewery building opened to generate interest in the building.  It is in danger of being demolished.  This weekend is the last weekend, so if you haven't gone, hurry!

One room features an area to get locally brewed beer.

Another room features games like ping pong, ladder golf, and corn hole.

There are also some awesome looking chairs made from tires.

There is an open air sitting area that often has live music.

There are also a few food trucks, so that you don't go hungry and/or to soak up some of the beer!  I had tacos one day that were really good.

I hope that this structure can be saved.  I like what is going on temporarily a lot.  It was a lot of fun, and there are always lots of people.

The Black Swan

The Black Swan
1048 Bedford Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11205

My friend lives in Brooklyn, and this gastropub is located near his home.  They have a full bar, but I did not sample any of their libations.

They have some specials that caught my eye that I would like to try.  Their website boasts a great bloody swan with a beer chaser.  I am thinking it's a bloody mary, but I can't be sure.

They have a reverse happy hour from 1am to 4am.  That's the best time for a drink special.  That needs to catch on in more places!

On Tuesdays, they have an unlimited mussel special from 6pm to 8pm for $15.  I think I could eat more than my fair share in that time frame.  I heart mussels and all other seafood.

On Wednesdays, they have an unlimited prosecco special from 6pm to 8pm for $15.  I could definitely drink more than my fair share of sparkling wine.

On Mondays, they have a wine special:  $4 a glass or $14 a bottle.

We went for brunch.  I had the coffee, which was deliciously rich and strong.

One friend got the chicken and waffles, which looked divine.  What a perfect combination!

Since it was a pub, I went with the full English breakfast.  I copied this straight from their menu:  "Two Eggs Any Style, Chicken Apple Sausage, English Bacon, Black and White Pudding, Baked Beans, Fried Tomato, Mushrooms, Home Fries And Toast."  I got the eggs over easy.  I also wanted to sub something for grits.  I was told I couldn't, but the waitress gave them to me anyway.  This meal was huge.  Everything was delicious.  I loved having all the different food to try.  I definitely recommend the full English.  The price was $12, which was good considering all the food I got.

Next time, I'm visiting my friend.  I'm going to try the reverse happy hour and the mussel and prosecco specials!

Oh, they also have brunch everyday.  More places should do that, too.

The Duplex

The Duplex
 61 Christopher St
Manhattan, NY 10014

I have been to the Duplex both times that I visited New York.  It's a gay bar in West Village.

The downstairs is a piano bar.  It's a chill place to hang out.

Of course, they have a full bar.

There is an upstairs that I never really saw.  Apparently, they have had performances from very talented people in the past.

My final comments are about the drinks.  The first time I went they were average New York prices.  The second time I went they were astronomical.  Perhaps I got premium vs well drinks.

Anyway, I would go here again.  I would be careful about how many drinks I had based upon the prices, though.  I really do like the atmosphere.

De Santos

De Santos
139 W 10th St
New York, NY 10014

We literally stumbled across this restaurant.  We were walking around looking for a place to eat.  Some places had too long of a wait.  Others didn't have food that we could all agree upon, so we finally after searching forever ended up here.

It has an upscale vibe.  There is a full bar.

We were there for dinner.  Apparently, they also have a brunch.  This is a "fancy" restaurant with high prices.  This is a place to go for good food, but don't go on a budget.

G had the basil crusted swordfish on a bed of corn and kale.  It was delicious.  It costs $25.

The restaurant also gives you some bread while you await your meal.

I went with the De Santo's burger.  It was delicious, even though it was $17.  It was topped with bacon and mozzarella cheese.  The bun was also really good.

It also comes with spicy fries.  One of the sauces was a basil aioli. It was so good.  I ate every bite of it.  I ate everything (burger, fries, and aioli.)  I was so stuffed, but it was worth it.  :)

If I went for brunch, I would seriously consider getting the burger again or the steak and eggs.

Hopefully, I'll return to New York sometime and get to sample it.

When we visited New York, G took me to this Indian restaurant that he had been to on a previous trip.

Like many Indian restaurants, they gave us this wafer bread, which according to my research is callaed papadom.  This one came with three sauces.  One was green.  It may be made with some mint and chiles.  One was a chopped veggie mix.  The other is perhaps a type of chutney.  If you know, let me know!

I had the vegetable soup, that had a tomato base.  It was very good.

G had the saag paneer, which is spinach with an Indian cheese.  This is by far my all time favorite Indian dish.  I'm always jealous, when I don't get it, because he always does.  I try to order something different so that I can try new things.

I tried the biryani this time.  It was rice and vegetables.  It was really good, but I still wished I had ordered the saag paneer.

I am not a fan of Indian desserts.  This was some type of rice pudding, I think.

I was a fan of this place.  It is worth trying if you are in the area and crave some Indian food.

Cornerstone Cafe

Cornerstone Cafe

New York, NY. 10009

This place has an awesome breakfast.  G and I visited during brunch time.  They are open everyday from 8am to 11pm.  They are cash only.  Fortunately, we knew this in advance, so we were prepared.  (I rarely, really never, carry cash).

It has a trendier upscale vibe, but it isn't pretentious at all.

It also had a bar, but I didn't indulge in any drinks this time.

It was morning, and I needed my coffee instead.  The coffee was good and strong like I like.

I went traditional with the two organic eggs any style, which I of course, chose sunny side up.  It also came with a mini salad of mixed greens and potatoes.  The price was a bargain at only $4.  I went ahead and added bacon for an extra $1.50.

The meal also came with some toast, which made me stuffed by the time I ate everything.

G ordered an omelette.  They have plenty of choices for the inside of the omelette.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal.  They also have some Italian dishes and some paninis.

I have never been for dinner, but I saw that they have lamb, salmon, and flounder dishes.  The prices are around $20, give or take a few dollars.

I would definitely return.  :)
