Alcatraz

Alcatraz
344 Franklin Avenue
Brooklyn, New York

Well, apparently, this restaurant closed before I finished writing my review.  However, I am going to post it anyway.

We were in Brooklyn and decided to give this place a try.  The restaurants boasts "fine Mexican cuisine."

The decor was very pink, and not like any typical Mexican restaurants.

The restaurant had typical Mexican food.  The chef had a seasonal special of "Bacalao, a hearty and robust dish perfect for autumn." I had never heard of it, so I decided that I had to give it a try.

I just had water, but one member of our party ordered the batido de coco.  It was coconut with fresh lime and cinnamon.

The meal was aesthetically pleasing.  The meal was full of colors and textures.   It came with one plate and one bowl; each were filled with goodies.

The plate had white rice, onions, avocado, potatoes, a hard boiled egg, tomatoes, capers and cod.  There was a red sauce that was to make your meal spicier.

The bowl was filled with a type of veggie stew.  I mixed the two together for a hearty treat.

Of course, you can't go here.  However, I think it is important to try new food and new dishes.  When you are in a restaurant that is offering something that you are unaccustomed to, give it a try!  You will be glad you did.
